I don't know you, but I should confess, I was afraid of arachnids. Born and raised in a region in which all kinds of bugs exist, (scorpions, spiders, etc), I was petrified every time I saw one of them. I remember once, it was about 18 years ago , I saw a spider coming inside my bedroom , I closed the door and it under it, I was panicked and went to sleep at my parents' house that night and didn't back home until someone (my sister) killed it. Now I can laugh. :)
My family was amused of how I was such "a strong person", and yet I was terrified of spiders. Fortunately, scorpions and some dangerous spiders do not like the cold weather, so in Portland I have never seen one of them. Indeed, their webs are used to decorate in these days, like the one I am showing in the picture :)
Over the years, I have realized that being afraid of these bugs is not so bad, it is said that a brain structure the size of an almond called, "brain Amygdala " is essential to experience fear. People with amygdala damage can go through life without experiencing any kind of fear for spiders, horror movies, etc. This is truly alarming because without experiencing fear, a person may dare to do anything (good or bad). Today, in spirit of Halloween, I will like to share this relevant article: http://www.the-scientist.com/?articles.view/articleNo/34277/title/Scaring-Those-Who-Have-No-Fear/
My reflection for today is: If experiencing no fear is a defect of the brain amygadala, being afraid of something, is not too bad, doing nothing about it is the problem. Perhaps one day, not far from now, with the help of technology, science and good will, everyone could become a perfect human being! That day we all could be beings of light!
As Albert Einstein said, "One day when every man discovers his own equation, he will integrate and disintegrate anywhere he wants."...Perhaps one day...What do you think? Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween !!
Afectuosamente,
DoraLic!
