Exactly fifteen years ago, I visited the this place (Oregon, USA) for my very first time in my life. Back then, I never imagined the tremendous transformation a human being can have when they move from one country to another. Now days we are lucky with all the information we can get from the Internet, specially in Google Search https://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=&oq=google+search&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4TSNA_enUS365US452&q=google+search&gs_l=hp..0.0l4.0.0.0.16929...........0.&pbx=1. Honestly, the lack of information and knowledge about the culture and customs did not let me enjoy my vacation as well as I wished, so I thought, I would never step a foot in this city again...and here I am living and doing the best I can. :)
Today, I have some tips to share with you whenever you visit a new city or country.
1.- Be informed 2.- Learn their language or colloquial phrases.3.- Forget about ethnocentrism
1.- Be informed.- knowledge is power. Go on Google search and look for the geographic location, weather, popular dishes , famous places in the city and everything you consider useful about it. The more details you know, the more you will enjoy your time there. People are always attracted by individuals who are informed or willing to listen and learn, therefore you will feel very welcomed!
2.-Learn the language.- if the place you are going to visit speaks a different language from yours, and you do not have enough time to learn it, try to memorize essential phrases, days of the week and numbers in their language, you will be surprised of the amazing welcoming they will give you! I can say that again!
3.-Forget about ethnocentrism.- as simple as this well known phrase:"If you go to Rome, be a Roman." Here is the definition of ethnocentrism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnocentrism It is okay if we are proud of our city or country, however when we go to another place, we need to understand and respect the beliefs and other people's points of view. No one likes when we spend so much time taking and bragging about our home land. Be interested and curious about their city and you will be surprised of how amazing people treat you!
The ability to adapt and make connections with people around the world is a priceless quality! P.S. My last but not least recommendation is: Become a member of a Toastmasters club. http://www.toastmasters.org/ The skills you will learn there will be your best credentials!

Hace exactamente quince años que visité tierras Oregonienses por primera vez. En ese entonces,nunca pensé en la tremenda transformación que experimentaría como ser humano al realizar la transición de un país a otro. Debo reconocer lo afortunados que somos ahora con el servicio de internet y sobre todo de Google search, https://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=&oq=google+search&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4TSNA_enUS365US452&q=google+search&gs_l=hp..0.0l4.0.0.0.16929...........0.&pbx=1 en donde podemos encontrar cualquier tipo de información que se nos ocurra., Hace quince años, no había tantos adelantos con la tecnología. Para ser sincera, la falta de conocimiento de la cultura y de la ciudad, me impidieron que disfrutara mis vacaciones como era debido, tanto que pensé que jamás volvería a pisar estas tierras...pero aquí estoy viviendo y haciendo lo mejor que se puede :)
Hoy te tengo algunos tips para compartir cada vez que visites una nueva ciudad o país.
1.-Infórmate 2.- Aprende el idioma 3.- Olvídate del etnocentrismo.
1.- Infórmate.- "El conocimiento es poder" ve en Google search y busca la ubicación geográfica, el clima, los lugares y platillos favoritos de la ciudad. Entre más detalles conozcas, más vas a disfrutar de tu estancia en ese lugar. A la gente le atrae las personas cultas y te recibe de buena gana.
2.-Aprende el idioma .- si al lugar al cual vas a ir , se habla otro idioma y no tienes tiempo de aprenderlo, por lo menos memorízate frases como son " ¿Cuánto le debo? ", ¿en dónde puedo encontrar un banco o una casa de cambio?, los números, y todas las frases escenciales que puedas. Háblalas y practícalas hasta que las domines. Te sorprenderás de lo bién que te atienden cuando ven que estás por lo menos tratando de hablar el idioma que se habla en lugar visitado.
3.- Olvídate del etnocentrismo.- http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etnocentrismo Tan simple como el viejo y conocido refrán: "Si a Roma vas, se Romano." Está bien que estemos orgullosos de nuestra ciudad y país, pero cuando vamos a otro lugar, necesitamos adaptarnos, entender y respetar los gustos y creencias de otros. A nadie le gusta que nos llevemos hablando de nuestra tierra todo el tiempo. La capacidad para adaptarse y hacer conexión con personas de diferentes lugares es una cualidad que no tiene precio. Hablando por mi propia experiencia, cuando aprendemos y aplicamos estos tips, nos tratan de maravilla a dondequiera que vayamos! Haz la prueba y verás. Una ultima y no menos importante recomendación es: hazte miembro de algún grupo de Toastmasters! ¡Las habilidades que ahí aprendes son fantásticas, yo se lo que te digo!http://www.toastmasters.org/
