How to create a charmed Summer! ¡Como tener un verano encantador!

Hello everyone!   Are you wondering what you are going to do this Summer?  I know, everyone wants to have an unforgettable time, including myself!  Here is the key: the best way to have a wonderful Summer is getting involved in projects and I will tell you why.

For the very first time, last year, I spent Summer far away from my home city in Mexico. I had been there every single  Summer, I never realized that what I was doing every year (besides visiting my family, friends and working) was finishing  some projects such as: painting our home, fixing the kitchen, etc. Working on those projects (with my family's help of course) brought me an immense joy...it was like charging the  battery for the rest of the year!! :)
Now time has changed, I have some other responsibilities here and need to stay the season in Portland, Oregon. But guess what?  I am getting involved in more projects: I am waiting for a sunny day to paint the deck, I want to design and make some beautiful, colorful dresses and even better: I want to dedicate at least one hour everyday to write  what will be my second book!!

It is a real pleasure when someone says, for example: "Your kitchen looks beautiful , who painted it ? " and you answer..."I did it!! " :)  When you get involved in projects there is no room for complaining or sadness. Getting involved in projects totally boosts our creativity, make us feel alive, healthy and tremendously happy! Therefore let's start now  working in different projects and we will have the most memorable and happy Summer!!

¡¡Buen día para todos!!  ¿Te has preguntando qué vas a hacer este verano? ¡Lo se, cada uno de nosotros desea tener un verano inolvidable, incluyendome a mi misma!  No te preocupes,aquí está la clave: la mejor manera de tener un verano maravilloso es invulcrandonos en proyectos y te diré el porque.

Por primera vez en mi vida, el verano pasado lo pasé lejos de mi ciudad natal en Mexico. Estando ahí cada verano a lo largo de mi vida, nunca me di cuente que lo que en verdad hacía (aparte de visitar a mis familiares, amigos y trabajar) terminar los proyectos que tenía pendiente, tales como pintar parte de mi casa, arreglar la cocina, etc. Trabajar en esos proyectos  (con la ayuda de mi familia, porsupuesto) me trajo una inmensa alegría...fera como cargar la batería por el resto del año :)
Hoy los tiempos han cambiado, tengo otras responsabilidades y necesito pasar el verano aquí en Portland, pero ¿a que no sabes qué....? :)  Me he involucrado en más proyectos, estoy esperando que salga completamente el sol para pintar el piso del patio de atrás, quiero diseñar y hacerme un vestido bonito, y más importante que todo: ¡quiero dedicar por lo menos una hora por día para reescribir y corregir lo que será mi segundo libro!

Es un verdadero placer cuando alguien nos dice..."wow, tu cocina luce muy bonita ¿quien la pintó?" y tú dices: "¡Yo lo hice!" ¿apoco nooo? Cuando nos comprometemos con nosotros mismos en proyectos de ese tipo, no hay tiempo para tristezas o quejas porque el universo nos provee con lo necesario. Cuando nos involucramos en  este tipo de proyectos, nos aumenta la creatividad, nos hace sentir vivos, saludables y tremendamente felices. ¡¡Por todas esas razones, empecemos hoy, involucrémonos en proyectos, trabajemos en ellos y les prometo que tendrémos el verano más memorable y feliz!!

Happy Father's Day! ¡Un feliz día del Padre para todos!

Last Thursday, while I was at a Toastmasters meeting, I was asked:" Dora, do you think it is a good idea to celebrate Father's Day?" My answer was, "Of course, I have nothing against Dad's celebration." Besides, I strongly believe that every great man should celebrate father's Day, whether he is  a biological father or not.  In different ways, every individual becomes a father or mother when he/she teaches  or mentors others. Those who are the example and inspiration for others, are indirectly parenting too.

My father used to call some of my brother's male friends "Hijo". Rosario, my dad, is a man of few words and few friends, however he is one of the most honest and sincere people I have ever known. I could not have a better dad, I can say that again!   Without realizing it, the funny thing is I got the same trait from him. I have two adopted daughters and a son (some friends of my older daughter)   They all call me  "Mom" and I like that! :)

Back to the point, I  feel a deep respect for those men who, for different reasons, do not show their real feelings of affection, it is not  easy for some people to express  that. I also believe that inside every  great man there is some  hidden love for parenting even if he does not realize it.  Therefore, no matter if you are  a  biological father, let's celebrate Father's Day!! Let´s inspire the whole world with love and good intentions!!

El  jueves pasado, mientras estaba en una reunión de Toastmasters, alguien me preguntó:" Dora, piensas que es buena idea celebrar el día del padre?" Mi respuesta fue: " Por supuesto, no tengo razón para estar en contra del día del padre,  además creo firmemente que todo gran hombre debería celebrarse el mismo el día del padre, sea un padre biológico  o no". De diferenetes maneras, un individuo se convierte en padre o madre cuando enseña o sirve de mentor para otros. Esos que sirven de ejemplo e inspiración a otros individuos, son indirectamente padres adoptivos también.

Mi padre solía adoptar a algunos de los amigos de mis hermanos llamandoles "hijo". Rosario, mi papá, es un hombre de pocas palabras y pocos  amigos, sin embargo él es una de las personas más sinceras y honestas que he conocido. No pude haber tenido un mejor padre, lo puedo decir cuantas veces sea necesario! Sin darme cuenta, lo curioso es que tomé la misma costumbre de él de adoptar a algunos de los amigos de mi hija mayor (tengo dos hijas y un hijo adoptivo) todos me llaman "Mamá" y me gusta :)

Volviendo al punto, siento un profundo respeto por aquellos hombres que, por diferentes razones, no expresan sus sentimientos de afecto. Muchas veces no es tan fácil para un hombre decirlo o acercarse a otra persona por temor a ser mal interpretado. Tambien pienso que dentro de cada gran hombre, hay un gran amor de padre, lo sea o no. Por esa razón, sin importar si eres un papá biológico o no, te invito a que celebres el día del padre. ¡Te invito a que inspires al mundo con tu afecto y buenas intenciones!

Our dreams are all about 3D perspective..Nuestros sueños tienen mucho que ver con la 3D persperspectiva e imaginación!!

Our success, in every area, is all about  imagination  and 3D Perspective.

A long time ago, I  heard a speech about  how to take fantastic pictures. The speaker also gave some tips of how to be successful  by taking photos. He pointed  out that the most important thing of taking a great picture is your imagination and perspective. Today while reading a photography magazine, I found the same conclusion in an article. This happens not only in pictures, but also in every step to success!  It is all about  our  perspective (3D or 4D who really knows?) and good disposition, depending on our dreams.

Albert Einstein wrote: "Logic will get you from "A" to" B", imagination will take you to everywhere."  To reinforce your imagination, my recommendation for today is try to visualize  and draw your dreams in every angle. Even if you think you  are not the best at sketching,  work on developing the amazing skill of drawing in 3dimensional figures http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perspective_(graphical). I really believe that depending on our abilities to draw, physically or mentally, will be our capacity to solve any problem and reach every dream we wish.

Our faith, for example, is nothing but the skill of thinking in 3D perspective...we see the miracle before this is made. Over the years,the most famous architects in the world first  worked on sketching their 3dimensional projects before creating the most majestic masterpieces!

Ladies and gentleman, the magnificent power to succeed in every area in our lives is having a strong imagination acquired by developing the skill of drawing in 3 dimension plus an extraordinary disposition to do it! Therefore, let´s do it, now!!

Nuestro éxito, en cualquier área, está siempre relacionado con la capacidad de imaginación y perspectiva en tercera dimensión.

Hace ya algún tiempo, escuché un discurso sobre cómo tomar fotografías fantásticas y el orador nos proporcionó algunos tips sobre como hacer buenas tomas. El mismo señaló que lo más importante en una foto bién tomada era la imaginacón y perspectiva del fotógrafo. Hoy, mientras leía un artículo en una revista fotográfica, encontré la misma conclusión. Esto pasa no sólo en las fotógrafias, sino también en cada paso exitoso que damos. Todo está relacionado con la perspectiva  (en tercera u otra dimensión más elevada, ¿quién lo sabe a ciencia cierta?) que tengamos.

Albert Einstein escribió: "La lógica puede llavarte del punto "A" al punto "B", pero la imaginación puede llavarte a cualquier lado que desees."

Mi recomendación para hoy es que trates  de dibujar tus sueños desde cualquier ángulo, no sólo en tu  mente, sino también en papel. Aun si piensas que no eres tan bueno dibujando, trata de hacer figuras tridimensionales http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tridimensional  ¡Realmente creo que dependiendo de nuestra capacidad para dibujar, ya sea fisica o mentalmente, será nuestra capacidad para resolver cualquier problema y alcanzar cada sueño deseado.

Nuestra fé es un claro ejemplo de perspectiva tridimensional... vemos el milagro realizado antes de que sea un hecho. Con el paso de los años, los más famosos arquitectos del mundo  han trabajado primero en el  bosquejo tridimensional de lo que será su majestuosa obra maestra.

Damas y caballeros, el magnífico poder para tener éxito en cualquier área de nuestras vidas radica en tener una gran imaginación, la cual se engrandece cuando desarrollamos la habilidad de dibujar y pensar en tercera dimensión. ¡Por esa razón, hagámoslo ahora!

The great joy and mistery of growing roses!- ¡La gran alegría y misterio de cultivar rosas!

Last weekend my heart  and my  intellect had some discrepancy. On one side, I was in the mood for writing on a scientific topic, on the other hand, I wanted to write something more spiritual.  And ...do you know what ?  my heart won again :)  Today I will share with you a little bit about the joy of growing roses...and also, I have some amazing facts about it  and I would love to share this with you!! :)

Do you know that roses are much more meaningful, much older and more deeply involved in the human subconscious than most people think ? Roses 35 million years old, were discovered in Europe, also archaeologists have found petrified rose wreaths from the oldest Egyptian graves. Rosicrucians used the rosehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosicrucianism and Catholic church  incorporated the name in the Holy Rosary http://www.rosary-city.com/rosary_prayer/the_holy_rosary.html  Those are just two of a wide variety of examples.

Throughout history, these beautiful flowers have been a symbol of both purity and passion: the real connection between earth and heaven and the perfect link between heavenly and earthly desires.There is no doubt, roses are symbol of joy, passion, perfection, compassion, sociability, enthusiasm, fascination, optimism and many other wonderful virtues in human beings!

Ronald A. Browne wrote: " I don't know whether nice people grow roses or growing roses makes   people nice."  The truth is that all the people  I have met,  who love roses , are very enthusiastic and successful!! 

 For the sake of the world, lets grow roses, love them and add the entire desire of reaching our most wished dreams!!

El fin de semana pasado, mi mente y corazón tuvieron una pequeña discrepancia. Por un lado, estaba de humor de escribir algo científico, por el otro, quería escribir algo más espiritual. Y...¿sabes qué? mi corazón ganó otra vez, hoy te hablaré sobre la alegría de cultivar rosas :) ... pero no te desanimes,  también  tengo algunos  hechos asombrosos  que realmente quiero compartir contigo !

¿Sabías que las rosas son mucho más significativas, tremendamente antiguas y mucho más involucradas en el subconciente humano de lo que la mayoría de la gente piensa? En Europa fueron descubiertas rosas que datan de 35 millones de años, y además algunos arquéologos han encontrado rosas petrificadas en las tumbas de las anitguas civilizaciones egipcias. Algunas hermandades han usado el nombre como son los Rosacruces http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosacruz y Los Cristianos católicos lo han incorporado a través del santo rosario, que significa "corona de rosas". Estos son sólo dos de la amplia variedad de ejemplos en cómo las sociedades y religiones han utilizado a la rosa para representar diferentes virtudes, pero entre ellas la principal que es el amor.

A través de la historia, estas hermosas flores han sido símbolo de ambas cualidades, pureza y pasión: la real conección entre la tierra y el cielo y el perfecto enlace para atraer los buenos deseos terrenales y celestiales. No cabe duda que las rosas son símbolo de alegría, pasión, perfección, compasión, sociabilidad, entusiasmo, fascinación, optimismo y todas las grandes virtudes que te puedas imaginar en el género humano.
