Are You Ready to Receive all of Your Greatness?

Did you know that Hispanic people celebrate Easter for a whole week?http://www.journeymexico.com/blog/easter-in-mexico-semana-santa-and-pascua
A good thing about this is we have more time to think about what we really want in this new beginning.
This is the right time to reach all of the greatness or spirituality we wish to achieve.
Perhaps you will ask yourself: "Why should I achieve more spirituality?" The answer is very simple; spirituality is similar to a blanket which protects us against any negative feeling. For example, in this competitive world, it is common to suffer from  low self-esteem or depression.
This is why today I want to share some suggestions for how to become more spiritual human beings .
1.- Love all beings of the creation (but love them as you love your favorite people.)
2.- Stay in touch with nature (listen to the birds' songs, the rain falling, etc.)
3.- Do not try to control other people (controlling our own lives is more than enough.)
4.- Go on daily walks and pray Our Father prayers while walking.
5.- Sing, dance and smile every single day.
6.- Pay special attention to the small coincidences that happens in your daily life.
7.- Write down on a piece of paper everything you wish for and  thank God in advance for the things you asked for.

These seven simple suggestions will help us to connect with our spiritual world!
Spirituality is modest, it stays with us if we do not brag about it!

True success consists of a balance between spiritual wisdom and material wealth!  Let´s strive for all of our greatness!!!

Have a great weekend!!

Tal vez te preguntes...¿Para qué quiero yo alcanzar dicha riqueza espiritual?

5.- Canta, baila y rie diariamente.

The Power of Self-acceptation - El poder de la autoaceptación-

A little more than two decades ago, on September 20th, 1993 in Los Mochis, Mexico, to be exact, I was at the pediatrician's office when the physician told me, "You cannot wait more, your baby is   tangled  with the umbilical cord around her neck , it is better to do a cesarean on you tomorrow morning"
I was full of surprise since I did not expect that comment until three weeks later, it brought tears to my eyes. There were so much emotions at once: debuting as a mother the next day, having a surgery, etc.

The pediatrician, who knew me since a long time ago because of my job at the same hospital, tried to keep me away from my concerns and with a sweet voice said, "I am happy that you are going to give birth to a girl because a man does not easily forgive his father when he is not raised close to him. I had a colleague, very smart man who deserved to be much more successful but he could never overcome that he wasn't raised by his father." Without saying a single word , I dried  my tears, listened to all of the instructions from the doctor for the next and GREAT DAY and left his office. I was more calm, feeling much better ... I must have felt very strong since I drove by myself  from home to the hospital the next day! :)

I believe my greatest fortune throughout my life has been being surrounded by people smarter than I am. Undoubtedly, the physician told me the right words at the perfect time.
Years later, when  my daughter, Doris Melania, started asking why her father was not with us, and wanted to cry, I used to tell her,"You are a princess and princesses do not cry...one day you will see your dad".

Honestly, I thought she would insist more and I prayed to find the right words to say, but she did not ask so much. She was always happy, friendly, with excellent grades at school. In fact, she earned herself one of the best scholarships that the U.S. offers for universities. I have so much to thank this country.

Back to the subject, it was a couple of years  ago when she told me with a great smile "Mom, when I was a girl, and you told me 'Princesses don't cry', I  thought I really was a princess. I believe this has helped me in different ways to be successful. I think Johns Hopkins University is a real castle and I live there!" :)

Definitely, we can be our best allies or our own enemies, depending on the self-acceptation we have.
I really believe that fostering our childrens' self-esteem is one of the best things we can do for them!

 Warmly,

DoraLic.

How to Get a Sharper Memory!- ¡Cómo lograr una memoria más brillante!

I hope you are having a great time so far this month. Today, March 14th, is the birthday of the famous scientist Albert Einstein. Perhaps this is the reason why I woke up today inspired in sharing some things about science.  Just between us, let me tell you that I love his phrases because they show that science is married (metaphorically speaking) to spirituality!  One of my favorites is,"The only reason for time is that is so that everything does not happen at once." I believe that it is a very enigmatic phrase!

As many of you know, I have spent more than a half of my life in the medical field.  Countless times, I have found myself wondering things that have not even been written in books. I think that  also makes me sympathize with Alberto Einstein! :)
Living here, in this cold weather, I have asked myself so many times: why is it that sometimes I can concentrate better than other times? Or: is it a fact that the brain deteriorates as soon as they say or it is because we do not receive so much blood flow within it?
A recent study done by researchers of University of Cambridge, shows that the difference between a young person's brain and another who is not so young,  is a vascular cause and not a neuronal deficience. http://www.neuroscientistnews.com/research-news/human-brains-age-less-previously-thought
Because the vascular system is vital to have a brilliant memory, I have some suggestions for you today!
1.-Add  some ginger, ginkgo biloba or horse chestnut to your diet.- take only one of these at a time per day. Even though they are natural, they are vasodilators and can cause some bleeding . If you are taking blood thinner, ask you doctor first.
2.-Drink a smoothie made of beet, apple, celery, grapes and chia (all in small amounts) and add some cranberry juice mixed with water. If you do that in the mornings, at least four days per week, it will keep your arteries clean and free of impurities.
3.-Avoid strict diets. If you have been slender almost all your life, avoid a strict diet. Our arteries need a little bit of fat to keep their walls strong.
4.-Go on daily walks and breathe deeply while walking. We need oxygen in our veins. Oxygen is in charge of transporting the blood through our body.
5.-Take short naps. It has been proven that taking two naps twice a day, for ten minutes or less, help us to focus, more than if we take 200 mgs of caffeine.

If we follow these five tips, we will have a brilliant memory, regardless of how old we are. Also, if we do that, we may become timeless people, as our honorable Albert Einstein was trying to explain us!!

Have a wonderful  weekend!!

DoraLic.

¡Me encanta!

Tell Me What You Eat and I Will Tell You Who You Are - ¡Dime qué comes y te diré quién eres!

Recently, it has been said that our thoughts define our fate. I dare to say that what really defines our fate and personalities is what we drink and eat each day. If we are not eating healthy food, how can we can have positive thoughts?  Dr. Nicholas Perricone said in one of his books, "What we eat is either healing or making us sick."

In this busy world, it is truly difficult to be aware, at all times, of what we are bringing into our mouths. Even I was experiencing that during the months I was living in Mexico. Due to my busy job and all the delicious meals they sell there, I was not really in the mood of preparing my own food, the price I had to pay later on, was developing strong allergies and some other health issues. Oh well, it is never too late to change our habits! :)

That is why today I want to invite you to be sincere with yourself and detect what kind of food is keeping you from being totally healthy. As we age, our immune system gradually decreases, so a chronic inflammation is generated in our bodies. Recent studies have proven that neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's, depression, schizophrenia and many others are caused by severe inflammation which occurs either in the brain or the central nervous system (located along our vertebral column or spine).

Undoubtedly, to think well, we need to have a healthy brain, thus our blood will irrigate every artery and cell in our brain. When this happens we have positive thoughts. Consequently, good thoughts lead us to have joyful and productive feelings, those great feelings also lead us to excellent actions. By having daily excellent actions, we can reach all the goals we have in mind!!!

Our brains are such precious diamonds,  therefore I strongly believe we need to take care and know everything about them! This is a great article I read today: http://www.neuroscientistnews.com/research-news/new-brain-mapping-reveals-unknown-cell-types

Have a spectacular weekend!!

Let's Talk About Discipline! - Hablemos de Disciplina.

As many of you know, Lent which is practiced by Catholics since the year 322, A.C, began this week. This is nothing less than some  discipline applied by faithful Christians.
Since ancient times, it is understood that people need to manage their time and willpower very well in order to achieve their goals.

We don´t need to become Catholic in order to start being more disciplined in different areas of our lives. Definitely, fasting is not for me, after three days of doing that, I get dizzy, therefore I am not willing to pay the price by sacrificing my stomach for 40 days! :)

However, I believe that Lent can be very beneficial  for everyone when we are trying to eradicate some bad habits. For example, we can promise ourselves not to eat junk food or not to do things that make us waste our valuable time for the next six weeks.

The first thing we need to do is to be able to preform a self-analysis of ourselves. That means we need to be sincere to ourselves by recognizing our bad habits and replacing them with some good chores related to our goals. Once we have done that, we need to promise ourselves that we will faithfully keep doing it for the next 40 days.

Success involves some sacrifices infused with will power. Here is some info to reinforce our discipline! http://www.forbes.com/sites/amymorin/2014/10/03/6-ways-to-develop-the-self-discipline-necessary-to-reach-your-goals/

Having discipline is to directly compromise oureselves with our fate! Discipline is the key to achieving any goal we have in mind, let´s practice it!!

Have an awesome time!!

DoraLic.

Are You Living Your Own Dreams? - ¿Estás viviendo tus propios sueños?

Hello everyone, I hope you are having a wonderful time so far this year! After spending seven months in my beloved country, Mexico, I am back in Portland, OR! I am still unpacking my bags and with them, I am also unpacking a bag of reflexions and dreams which I have not  yet concluded!
It is funny to see how many times life takes us down paths different from those we were expecting.
However,  I believe that what is most important is the ability of surviving and keeping the best of any experience!
Undoubtedly , this trip helped me to reflect and realize that enjoying the dreams of others is fantastic, but we also need to make some time to accomplish our own goals! If we do no live and work with our dreams, then we will work for the dreams of others.
To live and enjoy our own dreams, we need three important things:
1.- Time 2.- Mental concentration 3.- A touch of selfishness :)

1.- Time is critical, to achieve our goals we will need to polish our skills. We often say: "Tomorrow", "Next week", "Next Year" etc. If we really need to achieve that goal, we need to escape from our regular chores every single day and work hard until we reach it!!

2.- Mental concentration is another important factor we need to consider. Have you  ever experienced that, once you took some time to work on your goals, you didn't do anything because you had a lack of  mental concentration?  Many times our thoughts are too congested and  that does not allow us to clarify our brains.
An experiment which works very well for me is mixing some coffee and mint tea just before I start working on my projects. Mint has extraordinary properties that help increase blood flow, as a result, we can easily get concentrated! Try it, it's worth it!

3.- A touch of selfishness  is not so bad. While it is true that helping others to reach their dreams brings us a great joy, it is also true that we need to think about ourselves. Personally, it cost me a lot to think about my own plans without firstly thinking about others' goals, but achieving our own dreams is vital. Besides that, it will also give us great self-confidence!!

Do not think two times about it and start working today on your own dreams!!

Warmly,
DoraLic!

DoraLic.

How to Make Our Goals Become True!- Cómo convertir nuestras metas en realidad!

We are a few hours of saying goodbye to 2014 and welcoming 2015. With that, our hopes of success increase. I don't know what traditions you have in your city or country, but here there are plenty of things people do to welcome the year with optimism.
For example, some people walk with empty suitcases around the house in order to have many trips in the upcoming year. Some women wear yellow and red underwear (one over the other) to be economically successful and successful in their relationships. If you visit a clothing store during this time of year, the first thing you will see are the yellow and red panties at the entrance.  It feels great walking around downtown and remembering all of these traditions.

Undoubtedly, it is fair to have hopes. As humans beings, we have instincts of success. Having aspirations and expectations is worth it...Why not?  As I have done many times, you may ask yourself :why are some people able to reach their goals and other people are not? To make your dream a reality you need  to do three things.
1.- Be specific  2.- Use your visualization 3.- Add all of your energy (enjundia)

1.- Be specific.- we often ask for more money, but we do not establish, how much money we want and what we are going to do to earn that amount of money. We also want to find the man or woman of our dreams, however we do not know where we are going to find him/her. For this year, my recommendation is: let´s be more specific about what we want and what we going to do to achieve our big dream!
2.- Use your visualization.- we need to have a clear image in our mind of what we really want and need. Any big dream has firstly been in the mind of  that man or woman who achieved it. We can help ourselves by drawings or sketching what we want. In other words, we need to tattoo our minds with our dreams, so we can live and sleep with them until we achieve them!
3.- Add all of the "enjundia" (this phrase was used by the Spaniards when they said the bullfighters lacked substance or courage to face the bull. Any way, once you have been specific, draw your dream, and impregnate your drawings with all of the "enjundia" or energy needed until you have achieved your most wished dream!
For this, I wish you a 2015 full of accomplishments!!!

Cheers!

DoraLic.
